The YogaX 200-hour yoga teacher training program (YTTP) with healthcare settings emphasis is registered with Yoga Alliance and qualifies graduates to become registered yoga teachers (RYT200) through Yoga Alliance. 


The YogaX teacher training at Stanford Psychiatry covers all Yoga Alliance-required contents, drawing on yoga philosophy, yoga psychology, modern psychological research, evidence-based practices, neuroscience, and social science. The curriculum is taught by well-versed teachers with many years of teaching experience, qualified and experienced to teach teachers and clinicians, and registered with the Yoga Alliance.


Our curriculum is taught with a focus on the foundations of yoga as based in deep yogic traditions and modern neuroscience and psychology. We apply these concepts to the teaching of yoga in healthcare and wellness settings broadly defined. We integrate a deliberate focus on making yoga accessible to diverse student groups, with strong emphasis on teaching yoga for the needs of each human being with whom we make contact. Use of props, variations, adaptations, invitational language, self-regulation, and relationship/community is emphasized to make the practice optimally inviting and accessible for all. We teach, practice, and promote all eight limbs of yoga (from ethics and disciplined lifestyles, to posture and breathing practices, to sensory withdrawal, concentration, meditation, and joyful union with a greater purpose. Our YogaX YTT is firmly  grounded in our yogic values of integration, growth, community, service, equity, and inclusivity. 


The YogaX YTTP is delivered in two intensive retreat sessions of nine days each, 10 intensive weekend sessions spanning three days each, or in a virtual synchronous environment across eight months.   A total of 200 contact hours is required, all of which are in-person (live or virtual) and include contact with the RYT-qualified lead trainers.  Two types of practicum hours are completed by all trainees, namely observation and lead teaching.  At least five hours of lead teaching occur during the training under direct supervision of a YogaX lead instructor; 5 additional hours of teaching experience are accumulated at students' home locations with mentorship. Class observation and attendance will occur within and outside of the training.  The YogaX YTTP uses a cohort model of teaching, encouraging the same group of students to participate in all sessions to build group support, cohesion, and long-term community. 


The YTTP uses mixed pedagogical methods, ranging from lecture to discussion to experiential work, including small group activities. Lecture time will invite discussion throughout and will be accented by experiential exercises and activities.  The experiential work is yoga-based and includes asana, pranayama, meditation, and guided imagery.
